Convert MP3 to WAV

Pick an MP3, trim it if you like, and save it as a WAV, the format every editor and sampler opens. It all happens in your browser, so the file never leaves your device.

Convert an MP3 to WAV

Free, no sign-up. Your file never leaves your device.

How it works

  1. 1 / 3

    Pick your MP3

A song, a voice memo or a podcast episode saved as MP3, from your phone or computer. Up to 500MB and 20 minutes; it opens right in your browser.

  2. 2 / 3

    Trim it, if you like

Drag the handles to keep only the part you want. Or keep it all.

  3. 3 / 3

    Extract and save as WAV

Tap Extract audio. WAV is picked for you on the download button, and WAV, MP3 or WebM are one tap away.

What people use it for

  • Bring a song into GarageBand, FL Studio or Ableton to edit.
  • Load a sample into a sampler that only takes WAV.
  • Edit a podcast recorded as MP3 without losing more with each save.
  • Cut a song down to the part you need and keep it as WAV.

What converting MP3 to WAV does, and what it can't

WAV stores sound uncompressed, so editors, samplers and DAWs open it without fuss, and nothing more is lost each time you cut and save. That's the reason to convert: a file every tool accepts, which stays as it is through your edits.

It can't bring back what MP3 compression removed. The WAV sounds like the MP3 it came from, it doesn't sound better, and it's about ten times the size: roughly 11MB a minute in stereo.

Extractune's WAVs are 16-bit at 48kHz, the usual rate for video work. If a tool insists on 44.1kHz, as audio CDs and some older gear do, resample it there. The other way round works too: pick a WAV and download it as MP3.

Questions

How do I convert MP3 to WAV?

Open the converter, pick the MP3, trim it if you like, then tap Extract audio. WAV is already chosen on the download button, so the next tap saves it.

Can I convert just part of the MP3?

Yes. Drag the trim handles to the part you want before you tap Extract audio; only that stretch becomes the WAV.

Does it work with M4A, FLAC or OGG files too?

Yes. Any of them can be picked the same way and saved as WAV, MP3 or WebM.

Does my MP3 get uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser, so the file never leaves your device, and a big one doesn't wait on an upload.

Is it free?

Yes. No sign-up, no watermark, and no limit on how many files you convert to WAV.
