Extractune

Make a bassless backing track from any song

Upload a video with the song in it and Extractune takes the bass out, leaving the voice, drums and everything else. Play the bass line yourself, with the real band.

Make a bassless track

Free, no sign-up. Your video never leaves your device.

How it works

  1. 1 / 3

    Upload a video

Any MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV with the song in it, from your phone or computer. Trim to the song if the video is longer.

  2. 2 / 3

    Extract the audio

One tap, right in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

  3. 3 / 3

    Tap Split audio

Bassless is picked for you when the split is done. Listen, trim, and download it as MP3, WAV or WebM.

Splits up to 5 minutes at a time (2 on browsers that can't use your graphics chip).

What people use it for

  • Practise a bass line with the band that recorded it.
  • Record a bass cover over the original.
  • Lock in with the drums while you learn the part.
  • Hear the bass alone in the mixer to pick out the notes.

Questions

How do I make a bassless backing track?

Upload a video with the song in it, extract the audio, then tap Split audio. Bassless is picked for you when the split is done: listen, trim if you like, and download it as MP3, WAV or WebM.

Can I hear just the bass to learn it?

Yes. Open Mix it yourself on the same split and switch everything but the bass off. Download that mix, or all four parts as separate files.

Is it free?

Yes. No sign-up and no watermark: upload a video, split it, and download the backing track for free.

Does my video get uploaded?

No. The video, the extracted audio and the split all stay on your device: separating the parts runs in your browser, not on a server.

How long can the song be?

Videos can be up to 500MB. Splitting works on up to 5 minutes at a time (2 minutes on browsers that can't use your graphics chip), so trim a long video to the song first.

Why does the first split download something?

The separation engine runs on your device, so the first split saves it to your browser (about 172MB, once). Wi-Fi is recommended for that first time.
